Find a hard, flat surface with enough room to assemble the entire chessboard. Do not try this on a soft surface like a rug or lawn, or an uneven surface like dirt..

Start with the dark tile and add to its tabs as in the picture above. The pins slide into the tabs from above as in the picture to the right.

Use a hammer to tap the pins down into the tabs.

If your chessboard does not butt to a wall, we recommend edge ramps and corner ramps to reduce the risk of tripping. Where the edge tabs meet the tile tabs, remove the tabs from the edge for a snug fit. A hacksaw nips them off quickly, as do box cutters. Where edge tabs meet edge tabs, remove one of the tabs so they can be snapped together.

To reach the dirt that accumulates below the tile, simply roll back the tile and rinse it away with water.

To clean the surface of the tiles, hose them with water or brush with detergent and rinse with water.
